Live Aid: The Historic Concert That United the World
A star-studded lineup for a noble cause
WEB Live Aid 1985 was a historic charity concert held to raise funds for Ethiopian famine relief. The event brought together some of the biggest names in music, including Queen, David Bowie, U2, and Madonna. The concert was a huge success, raising over $100 million for famine relief.
One of the most iconic moments of Live Aid was Michael Jackson's performance of "We Are the World." The song was written by Jackson and Lionel Richie, and it featured a chorus of over 40 celebrities. "We Are the World" became a worldwide hit, and it helped to raise awareness of the famine in Ethiopia.
Major absentees
While Live Aid featured a star-studded lineup, there were some notable absentees. Prince, Bruce Springsteen, and Elton John all declined to participate in the concert. Jackson's appearance on stage was one of many memorable moments in a grand display of global solidarity that raised money to help combat the famine in Ethiopia. The show featured group performances of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid and USA for Africa performing the Finale at Live Aid in front of 100,000 people in the John F Kennedy Stadium Philadelphia USA on the 13th July 1985.
